Between October 1st and November 24, 2012, hundreds of individuals will come together across the United States, Mexico, and beyond to celebrate the lives of migrant workers and their families. These individuals will help CDM raise awareness about migrant workers’ rights and commemorate the migrant workers who have lost their lives while employed in the US.

Thousands of female migrant workers travel to the United States each year.  Many of these women flee their countries of origin to escape violence and poverty, only to experience violence in migration and while working in the United States.  Like other migrant workers, some of these women suffer fatalities during the course of their employment in the United States.  This year’s Cien Cenas campaign will honor the lives of the migrant women who have died.

This year’s campaign will span the fall harvest, Día de los Muertos and Thanksgiving.  We cordially invite you to host a dinner with your friends and family.  Together, we will celebrate the lives of the migrant workers who have suffered fatalities in low-wage, high-risk workplaces across the United States.  We will also pay homage to the amazing contributions that all migrant workers make to the US economy, culture, and social fabric.

As part of your evening, we ask that you share CDM’s mission and the voice of migrant workers with your guests.  In addition, we ask hosts to help us raise $250.00 at each cena to support the fight for migrant workers’ rights in the U.S. and Mexico.

You are free to provide the food, beverage, and entertainment of your choice.  We will provide you with all of the materials and information necessary to host your event, including information about Día de los Muertos, recipes for your menu, and resources to share about migrant workers’ experiences in the United States!
